There is no universal system amongst online casinos about how all the various games are weighted. Traditionally you were required to play through your bonus 30 times before you could cash out according to a table of weightings. Obviously to increase your chances of winning, you are betting off choosing to play the games that are weighted to have better payouts provided you know how to play those games. For example, blackjack offers great odds provided you know how to play blackjack which is a tricky game of skill. I still believe that you can’t go past baccarat as its so simple (once you rule some of the admittedly confusing rules) and has one of the lowest house edges of all casino games.

As I have said in a previous post on this blog, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll avoid the proposition bets found in the centre of the table given their high house advantage. But sometimes you just want the thrill of 30 for 1 payoffs so here’s a short tutorial on how to play craps proposition bets. I just don’t recommend that you incorporate these bets into your craps playing strategy even though they are potentially profitable.

The proposition bets known as the ‘hardways’ and the ‘horn bet’ are probably the most popular proposition bets.

Hardway Bets: For a hardway bet to win, the four, six, eight or ten must roll as a pair so for example a hard four would be the roll of a two and two. You will lose a hardways if you don’t roll a pair or you roll the seven. Hardway bets do not come into action during the come out rolls until a point number is marked. The house edge on a hard 4 or 10 is 11.11% with a payout of 7 to 1. The house edge on a hard 6 or 8 is 9.09% with a payout of 9 to 1.

Horn Bets: These are one roll bets and whether you win or lose depends on the subsequent roll of the dice. There are in fact four different types of horn bets (craps horn bet, craps horn low, craps horn high and the craps horn yo) that combine the numbers two, three, eleven and twelve. If, on the next roll, one of the horn numbers wins, then the portion of the bet will be paid.

The Martingale System in Roulette

The Martingale System is probably one of the oldest, easiest and most well known betting system for roulette. According to the system, the player begins with a small wager on an even money game (like betting on ‘red’ or ‘black’). If the player wins, he stops playing but if he loses, then he doubles the size of his bet. If he then wins this second bet then stops playing and leaves with a small profit in his pocket from his original wager. However, if he loses this second wager, he double his bet again. Essentially the rule is that the player continues to double his wager every time he loses which is perfectly fine provided you’re a high roller with an endless, unlimited bankroll and thus no betting limits! Unfortunately, I myself don’t fall into that category!

You will find many players on the internet swearing by this system and probably in the short term it does produce results but this is deceptive. If you adopt a more mathematical, statistical perspective you will see that you’ll lose in the long term relying on this system as all your considerable loses will amount to more than all your small winnings.
